SwiftBroadband

SwiftBroadband is an IP-based packet-switched communications network that is being provided over a constellation of three Inmarsat 4 (I-4) satellites. The first two were launched in 2005 and the third was launched in 2008. It provides a symmetric ‘always-on’ data connection of up to 432kbit/s per channel for aircraft globally except for the polar regions.  It can also provide IP streaming at various rates up to a full channel.

Using a high-gain antenna (HGA), SwiftBroadband can deliver a symmetric, data connection of up to 432kbps per channel, and provides guaranteed connection rates of 8, 16, 32, 64, 128, 256kbps on demand. Satcom1’s unique software license AvioIP feature allows dual bonding of 1 to 3 Swiftbroadband channels, to reach speeds of up to 1.2 MB/s.
